Cologne hotel group Althoff is continuing its expansion in the upscale segment across prime locations. In Wenningstedt on Sylt, the owner-managed family business plans to open the AMERON Sylt Hotel Windrose in spring 2028. The traditional existing building, whose origins date back to 1910, will undergo comprehensive revitalisation and core refurbishment prior to reopening as part of its repositioning.

Revitalisation of a traditional property in Wenningstedt

The scheme comprises a complete refurbishment as well as a full refurnishing of the seaside estate. Following completion of construction works, the property will feature 82 rooms and 18 residences. This structural realignment is complemented by a revised dining and bar concept as well as a wellness area equipped with an indoor pool and saunas.

The redesign aims to unite the historic fabric of the site with the design standards of the collection. The regional identity and the landscape character of the North Sea island are to be incorporated into the architecture and interior design, creating a contemporary holiday resort for discerning target groups.

Expansion of the AMERON resort portfolio

With the location on Sylt, Althoff expands the AMERON Collection Resorts division by a third destination alongside existing properties in Davos and Neuschwanstein. The collection also includes urban locations such as the property in Hamburg's Speicherstadt. Frank Marrenbach, Chief Executive Officer of Althoff Hotels, pointed to the relevance of the island as one of the country's most sought-after holiday destinations, combining natural scenery and high-end hospitality. Together with company founder Thomas Althoff and partners, the hotel is now being purposefully further developed.

  • —Location: Wenningstedt on Sylt, originally constructed in 1910
  • —Capacities: 82 hotel rooms and 18 independent residences
  • —Amenities: New F&B offering, spa area with indoor pool and sauna facilities
  • —Planned completion and opening: Spring 2028

Thomas Lanfer, Head of Development of the hotel group, also emphasised that the island provides ideal conditions for the brand's profile due to its year-round appeal. With this project, the selective expansion in prominent destinations is consistently continued.
