San Francisco-based clothing company American Giant is expanding into Brooklyn. The sportswear and casualwear manufacturer, whose collections are produced exclusively in the United States, has signed a lease for 3,400 square feet at 83-85 Metropolitan Avenue in North Williamsburg. According to sources close to the transaction, the brand intends to open its first location in the New York borough of Brooklyn at the site.
The property is situated between Kent Avenue and Wythe Avenue, in immediate proximity to Domino Park and the sought-after Williamsburg waterfront. The established shopping corridor along North Sixth Street, where international luxury brands such as Rolex and Hermès operate flagship stores, is also within walking distance.
Long-term lease and allocation of space
The lease carries a term of ten years. According to a spokesperson for Cornelia Street Partners, American Giant's future store will occupy around 1,700 square feet of the total area. The fashion company has not yet disclosed how the remaining 1,700 square feet will be used.
On the landlord side, the property company China Building was represented by Steven Ancona of Flatiron Real Estate Advisors. Negotiations on behalf of American Giant were led by Lenny Kohlmayer and Evan Kleinberg of Cornelia Street Partners. The parties involved did not disclose the asking rent. By way of comparison, in a recent deal completed by fashion chain Zara at the nearby address of 184-192 Bedford Avenue, ground-floor rent stood at 450 dollars per square foot.
Store network development
American Giant was founded in 2011 and, according to company information, currently operates one shop in San Francisco and an outlet location in Smithfield, North Carolina. A showroom in San Francisco is currently listed as temporarily closed. The store opened in 2024 in New York's SoHo district at 339 West Broadway has since ceased trading.
